Computer labs FAQ

Review frequently asked questions below about ÇïϼÂ×Àí computer labs.

How to save your work on Library or lab computers

Any work you do on campus library or lab computers should be saved to an external media device such as a USB flash drive, as files cannot be saved directly to college computer drives. You can purchase USB drives from the College Bookstore.

Alternatively, you can attach files to an email message and send the message to your personal email account.

How to cope with version incompatibility

The software on ÇïϼÂ×Àí computers may be of a different version from the software on your home computer. This may present difficulties when you try to open files. The best way to deal with such problems is to save your file as the older version, which is an option available to you in most applications.

To save your document in a different format:

  1. Select File > Save As
  2. Give your document a filename
  3. Click the down arrow to the left of the Save as type field for a drop-down list of program versions
  4. Select a version from this list
  5. Click Save

Are you unsure what file format you should choose? Save your document in Rich Text Format (RTF) or as a plain text (TXT) file.
