The Royals Rumble is back, this time with an exciting new twist!
This edition we are hosting an open 3v3 basketball tournament November 17th from 4pm to 7pm in the New Westminster Gym. This event is open to all persons, shapes, sizes, and skill levels. Prizes will be awarded to the tournament winners as well as best dressed, best sportspersonship, and best team spirit. The theme is Space Jam, so get creative!
Register as a team (5 person max) or individually and get ready to rumble. We encourage teams to be comprised of more than one gender. With a beginner pool and an intermediate/advanced pool, all skill levels are welcome!
We encourage teams to arrive in coordinated gear (matching shirts, colours, themes, etc). We will have awards for champions, best dressed, best sportspersonship, and best team spirit after the tournament!

Basketball Game Structure:
- There will be a captain for each team as well as team name.
- This is going to be a self-refereeing game, but if there are conflicts, these can be mediated through event organizers.
- Team matches will be structured in a pool play tournament format within their designated pools.
- Pool A - intermediate skill level
- Pool B - beginner skill level
Game Rules:
- Each match will occur for 22 minutes in total (2 x 10 minute halves with a 2 minute break during half time).
- Half Court
- No breaks after scoring, but substitutes can be implemented only when the game is stopped.
- Teams of 3 players + 2 subs.
- Flip a coin or "rock paper scissor" for 1st checkball.
- Inside the arc = 1 point, Outside the arc = 2 points.
- Basketball must be cleared by team before attempting to shoot, and points will be invalid if ball was not cleared.
- Advance the ball by passing or dribbling only.
- If a player with possession of the ball stops dribbling then continues before passing or shooting, this will be “double dribble,” and the opposing team gets the ball.
- The offense has five seconds to inbound the ball when clearing the ball.
- Illegal contact with a shooter results in a foul which leads to fouled player with free throw.
- Personal foul: contact that impedes an opposing player in the act of shooting.
- Charging foul: offensive player makes contact with a defensive player who has planted their feet in a locked position.
- Players line up on the key box, alternating team players.
- If shot is missed = live ball.
- If shot is made = switch possession.
- Teams can call for event referee if required.
FAQ
What if I don't have a team? Can I sign up still?
Yes, If you sign up without a team already set in place we will organize you into teams based on availability within teams as well as desired skill level matches (Pool A and B).
What are the requirements for me to play?
- Participants must be an active student of ϼ with a valid student ID number.
- Participants must sign a participation agreement form. Participation agreement forms will be sent via email to registrants after registration
- Students not of majority age must have a parent or guardian complete the participation agreement
