Yes, we expect you to meet your mentee in-person.Â
The program is meant to be aÂ social experience where mentees can meet their peers andÂ feelÂ moreÂ connection at Douglasâ€‹. However, we understand everyÂ mentee enters the program for different reasons. Some mentees mayÂ notÂ want to meet in person,Â but we expect you to give them the option.â€‹
The purpose of the Mentorship Program is to help first semesterÂ international students build aÂ community, please consider meeting your mentee in person and encourage them to join activities andÂ events happening within the program and on campus
We will be using Microsoft Teams. This is a free application included in your Office 365 account. This is where you will interact with your mentees, receive updates about the program, log conversations, and learn about other volunteer opportunities!Â
Throughout your first semester, you can reach out to mentor with any questions you may have about your new life at ÇïÏ¼Â×Àí and Metro Vancouver area, share common interests, culture and more! Your mentor willÂ check in with you to make sure you feel supported. However, please note that your mentor is not expected to be a counsellor, advisor, or instructor for you. A mentor is meant to be a point of reference for the mentee to the services at the college.
While we encourage participants to continue to stay in touch with each other, this program will be one semester. For Fall 2023,Â please note that your mentorship will officially end on December 6th.

Once you have successfully signed up for the program, the matching period is between September 5th - 15th. How you respond to the survey factors into which mentor is best to help you in your first semester at ÇïÏ¼Â×Àí.Â We willÂ workÂ toÂ find the bestÂ match for you.

No, you cannot. You will have the opportunity to connect with mentors once you are fully registered in your first semester.Â
However, you canÂ connect with a DCI Ambassador to learn more about ÇïÏ¼Â×Àí, its programs, and student life.
The DCI Mentorship ProgramÂ is free toÂ all students who meet the eligibility criteria.
